About Erika George

Erika George brings an unparalleled depth of expertise in ethics, human rights, and corporate accountability to CPIT’s mission of promoting ethical technology use. A distinguished legal scholar and the Samuel D. Thurman Professor of Law at the University of Utah’s S.J. Quinney College of Law, Erika has built her career on advancing constitutional law, international human rights, and corporate citizenship—critical pillars for navigating the complex intersection of technology and society.

At CPIT, Erika’s background in international human rights law and corporate sustainability is instrumental in shaping consulting services that address pressing ethical challenges in AI and data science. Her contributions help ensure that our offerings, such as algorithmic auditing and technology ethics consulting, align with global standards for corporate responsibility and human rights. Erika’s insight is central to CPIT’s mission of creating sustainable ecosystems where businesses leverage AI responsibly to drive productivity, ROI, and social good.

Erika’s leadership extends beyond academia, exemplified by her role as Director of the Tanner Humanities Center since 2019. Her extensive research on multinational corporations’ responsibilities in respecting human rights and the mechanisms to hold them accountable for violations directly complements CPIT’s commitment to ethical frameworks for AI governance. This alignment reinforces CPIT’s ability to serve industries ranging from cultural heritage organizations to health and human services, helping them adopt ethical AI practices that safeguard human rights globally.

A graduate of Harvard Law School, where she served as Articles Editor for the Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review, Erika also holds a B.A. with honors and an M.A. in International Relations from the University of Chicago. Her scholarship, published in prominent law reviews such as the California Law Review and the Michigan Journal of International Law, cements her status as a thought leader in human rights and corporate ethics.

Erika’s contributions to CPIT also draw from her leadership as Interim Director of the Tanner Center for Human Rights and her tenure as a Presidential Leadership Fellow at the University of Utah. These experiences, combined with her academic rigor, enable CPIT to integrate corporate responsibility with innovative technology solutions. Erika’s focus on sustainability, corporate governance, and public interest technology ensures that CPIT empowers clients—from SMEs to federal agencies—with ethical frameworks that drive both technological advancement and social impact.
